How to Use a Power Booster Cable (Y Cable) With A Portable Hard Drive

Drive not recognized by the computer, light flashes and drive starts clicking.

All portable USB devices are powered by the USB bus and do not require a separate power supply when connected to most computers. A power booster cable may be needed if the light on the drive is flashing or the drive is clicking.
