Verbatim U3 Smart Drive

What is a U3 smart drive?
A U3 smart drive is a new standard that transforms USB Flash Drives from simple storage drives into USB smart drives, capable of carrying a wide range of software programs and settings. You can easily install the set of U3 programs you need on your U3 smart drive, and run them from any Windows computer by merely inserting your U3 smart drive into the USB port of the computer.

The U3 device is not ejected from the USB port on the computer when I click the Eject button on the U3 Launchpad Main window.
Close all running applications before clicking the Eject button. If this does not work you should manually remove the U3 device from the USB port on the computer. Clicking the Eject button closes down all running applications, cleans up the computer and shuts down the U3 device so that it can be safely removed from the USB port on the computer.

The U3 Launchpad window is not displayed when I insert my U3 device into the USB port on my computer.
When the U3 device is inserted into the USB port on the computer, a U3 icon is displayed in your Windows Taskbar. Click the U3 icon to display the U3 Launchpad Main Window. If the U3 icon does not display. You should run U3Launcher.exe from the CD partition of your U3 device.

I have an application installed on my U3 device that I know has a newer available version. How do I update my version of the application?
U3 Launchpad has a mechanism for updating existing applications and all you have to do is to follow the procedure for installing new applications on your U3 device. U3 Launchpad checks if there is a newer version of the installed application. If an application is available, U3 Launchpad installs it on your U3 device after removing the old application.

How do I know what applications I can install on my U3 device?
Only U3 smart applications can be installed on your U3 device. You can install these applications from the U3 Web Site, or from U3 Applications tab at verbatim.com/u3.

I insert my U3 device into the USB port of my computer but the U3 Launchpad icon does not appear in the system tray. What should I do?
Verify that your computer runs a supported operating system. U3 Launchpad supports Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. On non supported operating systems, such as Linux, Unix, or Mac OS, your U3 device behaves as a regular USB device. This means that you can browse your data files but you cannot run your applications or use the advanced features of U3. To solve this problem you should run U3Launcher.exe from the CD partition of your U3 device.

U3 Launchpad

What is the U3 Launchpad?
The U3 Launchpad is the Start menu of your U3 smart drive. The U3 Launchpad allows you to run, add or remove programs on your U3 smart drive, manage drive settings and preferences and perform other functions. All U3 programs that you have installed on the U3 smart drive are accessed via the U3 Launchpad. The U3 Launchpad can also be configured to run certain applications automatically when the U3 smart drive is inserted into a computer.

Why install applications onto a U3 smart drive rather than onto a computer?
Once applications are installed on the hard drive of a desktop or laptop computer, they become non-portable and locked onto that machine. By saving your applications on your U3 smart drive, you have the choice to use them on any PC (Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and higher, Windows 2003 Server) wherever is most convenient. By storing applications and files on a U3 smart drive, you avoid installation of a program onto your computer that may only be used a few times. In addition, when applications are installed on a U3 smart drive, system files are only loaded when the applications run, not at the time the computer starts up, thus reducing compatibility issues, improving system stability, and increasing overall performance. You can also avoid carrying your laptop and instead conduct your work on any PC.

What security is available for U3 smart drives? What if I lose mine?
U3 smart drives come with built-in password protection and authentication to ensure your data and applications cannot be accessed by another user. Additional security features, such as data encryption, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and network access software are also available as add-on solutions available at U3 Download Central at www.U3.com.

Migo

What is Migo?
Migo provides you with the freedom and flexibility to carry your entire computer profile, including files, folders, Internet Explorerâ„¢ favorites, desktop icons and wallpaper from one PC to another, without altering the host computer. Migo automatically synchronizes the updated files to the main computer, eliminating the need for you to e-mail the altered documents back to yourself or keep track of the changes.

Why should I use Migo, and not just copy files by myself?
Migo eliminates the hassle of figuring out which is the most recent copy of the document you're working on. For instance, was the latest version of your big project on your PC, or on your U3 smart drive? And to where exactly did you copy it? Migo automatically takes care of making sure that your computer and your U3 smart drive both have the latest file versions, and that they appear under the same location.

How do I start using Migo?
Migo usage can be divided into four main stages: synchronizing your main computer, loading your saved profile from your U3 smart drive onto a host computer, unloading your saved profile once you're done using it, and synchronizing your changes back to the main computer. To start using Migo, you'll first need to synchronize your main computer. Plug in your U3 smart drive, and go to the U3 Applications tab at verbatim.com/U3 and follow Migo's guidelines. Once you're done synchronizing, you can use Migo to log in to your saved profile from any supported computer.

How do I uninstall Migo?
Use the U3 Launchpad to uninstall Migo from your U3 smart drive. A prompt will ask whether to remove your synchronized computers from your U3 smart drive. Choose "No" if you're accessing these files without using Migo. Read more about uninstalling U3 applications in the Help section of the U3 Launchpad.
