How to Use a Power Booster Cable (Y Cable) With A Portable Hard Drive

Drive not recognized by the computer, light flashes and drive starts clicking.

All portable USB devices are powered by the USB bus and do not require a separate power supply when connected to most computers. A power booster cable may be needed if the light on the drive is flashing or the drive is clicking.

• A laptop computer that has limited bus power.
• USB bus-powered hub

The drive may only function properly if you power it with the optional power adapter or a USB 2.0 Power Booster Cable. Verbatim offers an USB 2.0 Power Booster cable (the USB 2.0 Power Booster cable has two USB connectors that plug into two USB ports on the computer.
