Blu-ray
Blu-ray media comes in several formats; including BD-R and BD-R LTH (Blu-ray Recordable Disc), BD-R DL (Dual-layer recordable) and BD-RE (Blu-ray Re-Writable Disc).
What are the differences among the formats?
The differences are as follows:
- BD-R and BD-R LTH record data one time only, then the disc is only readable
- BD-R DL have twice the storage capacity of BD-R and BD-R LTH, data is recorded once, then the disc is only readable
- BD-R XL has twice the stoarge capacity of BD-R DL, data is recorded once, then the disc is only readable
- BD-RE allow you to record and re-write data up to 1,000 times
What is BD-R LTH? How is it different from BD-R media?
BD-R LTH media is manufactured using a Verbatim-exclusive organic dye that changes the disc’s reflectivity during recording from “low to high.” BD-R LTH discs have the same storage capacity as BD-R discs, but a more efficient manufacturing process allows the discs to be offered at a lower cost to consumers. BD-R LTH is compatible with all current Blu-ray burners and most, older models with firmware update. Both Verbatim BD-R and BD-R LTH feature Hard Coat™, a protective layer that safeguards the disc from scratches, fingerprints or dust, helping to avoid recording or playback errors.
How much more capacity can BD-R XH hold versus standard or dual layer BD-R?
BD-R XL discs include a third storage layer to give it a storage capacity of 100GB. Standard Blu-ray discs come with storage capacities of 25GB for a single-layer disc and 50GB for a dual-layer disc.
Why choose Verbatim Blu-Ray media?
All Verbatim Blu-ray discs feature Hard Coat™ to protect against scratches, fingerprints and dust build-up, reducing recording or playback errors. In addition, Verbatim Blu-ray recordable and re-writable discs are compatible with the latest Blu-ray hardware from manufacturers that include Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and LG. All Verbatim Blu-ray discs are backed with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and a 40-year history of quality and reliability.
So how do I know which Blu-Ray media to use?
Blu-ray media is the logical choice for backing up HD video and audio files. BD-R and BD-R LTH discs are excellent for archiving HD home movies or music collections. If your video or music collection is more extensive, BD-R DL or BD-R XL discs offer greater storage capacity (up to 3x that of BD-R or BD-R LTH) requiring fewer discs. If you find yourself frequently updating your music library or wanting to update an archived photo collection, consider BD-R RE discs, which allow you to add to or re-write the same disc up to 1,000 times.
