Causes:
1. If the drive contains an NTFS partition, indexing may be enabled.
2. You may be using third party software that is still accessing the drive. This may include antivirus, spyware.
Resolutions:
1. To check for indexing in Windows 2000 and XP only, browse My Computer and right-click on the drive letter assigned to the drive. Select Properties. You find Allow Indexing option under the General tab. If this is checked, uncheck it.
2. If neither of the above solutions solves the problem, shutting down the computer first will safely stop the drive. You can then unplug the drive from the computer and/or power
