Hard Drives

What interface speed is supported by my USB hard drive?
Your USB hard drive will always operate at the highest speed supported by your USB host. If your host supports High Speed mode (maximum supported by USB 2.0), then your drive will automatically operate at High Speed.  If your USB host does not support High Speed mode, your hard drive will automatically revert to the slower Full Speed mode.

Will my USB hard drive run at USB 2.0 “High Speed” with Mac OS X?

Your USB hard drive will run at USB 2.0 High Speed, if your Mac hardware and OS X release supports USB 2.0 High Speed.  Early releases of Mac OS X and Macintosh hardware produced before 2003 did not supply built-in support for USB 2.0 High Speed operation (though the slower Full Speed operation is supported).  However, USB 2.0 High Speed operation can be supported through third party add-on cards and software, and is included in more recent Mac OS X releases and hardware from Apple.

Will my USB hard drive run at USB 2.0 “High Speed” with Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x?

No, Apple does not provide support for USB 2.0 High-Speed operation for Mac OS 8.6 through 9.x (only Full-Speed operations is supported).
